Laying Techniques

1. Pulling

4. Aerial and Indoor Laying

  • Aerial installation: Fiber is suspended on poles or existing infrastructure, often using messenger wires for support .
  • Indoor installation: Includes running cables along walls, ceilings, or within cable trays, ensuring proper bend radius and protection from mechanical stress .

Handling and Protection

  • Keep protective material on reels until installation .
  • Avoid sharp bends, kinks, and excessive pulling force .
  • Use clean surfaces and plastic sheets to prevent contamination .
  • Maintain proper storage and temperature conditions to prevent damage .

Connection and Testing

After laying, fusion splicing or mechanical splicing connects fibers, followed by termination to network devices . Testing with OTDR or OLTS ensures signal integrity, identifies bend losses, splice imperfections, or contamination, and confirms compliance with industry standards .

Maintenance Considerations
